MEET THE TEAM

Ian Billson

One of the fastest Contact Lens Fitters in the U.K. ( I used to do track days on a very fast bike - 1000cc Yamaha ).

I try to take my birthday present into work with me a few days a week. Most say she is Gorgeous, but we call her Poppy.

We use her as our meet and greet ( she won't try to sell you anything, just happy with a tummy tickle ).

Colin
Optometrist

I qualified as an optometrist in 1984, after 4 years of university study. I have practised optometry throughout the world, with 5 of my own practices in the UK and Spain, I started regular locum work for Billson Opticians in 2016. I was highly impressed with the family values, and individual care given to our customers, and became a permanent optometrist.
I enjoy keeping active, and in 2016 won a gold medal in the 3000 meter event, at the Australian Masters Games (age related), held in Alice Springs..

Kosta
Dispensing Optician

I have been in optics since 1990 and qualified as an optician in Greece in 1994. I moved to the UK and qualified as a Dispensing Optician seven years ago, and although I miss the Greek weather and sea, I haven’t regretted my decision.

With over 25 years of experience in optics, I believe that I have dealt with almost every different situation an optician can come across, so if you think that you have a challenge for me, just bring it on! I’ll appreciate it.

In my free time I enjoy Netflix series and internet memes. My favourite holiday is a road trip of 4000 miles, in two weeks, with 3 friends in the car.

ABOUT LINTON

In AD 1086, Lintone was listed in the Domesday Book as having 27 households with two mills.
It is likely that Linton was settled before Roman times as early Iron Age remains have been found near Hadstock Road and a Roman Villa used to lay near Barham Hall. A large pagan Saxon burial ground was discovered at Bareham Heath (near Horseheath Road) and was subsequently
inserted into a Romanobritish barrow.

Dr John Richardson (1564 – 1625), born in Linton became a sizar at Clare College Cambridge (sizar refers to students requiring financial help) then a Fellow of Emmanuel College and later a Master of Peterhouse. He was a gifted linguist and served in the First Cambridge Company that was charged by King James the 1st of England with the translation of the books from the Old Testament for the King James Bible.

On 1st June 1865, Linton Railway Station opened. According to the Cambridge Chronicle ‘there was much merrymaking’ in Linton and ‘many a hearty cheer was given for the success of the line’.
The railway was successful until the 1920’s and 30’s where investment in the line was insufficient and the Second World War and Post War economics caused further decline in the railways.
Doctor Beeching axed the Sudbury to Cambridge line in 1967.
